Project Rationale

The brief was for the label to reflect the artistry in transforming raw materials into new creations. Brand owner Jacques is a true ‘son of the soil’ with a life-long love for cultivation. One of Jacques’ most striking features is his flaming red hair, which inspired the warm shades used on the labels. Parallels are also drawn between shaping clay and the art of winemaking. The earthy design tones and textures symbolise the raw vitality of vineyard soil. The two labels are complementary as a series, but also distinct artworks in their own right.

The Brand

Fire and passion give wings to the wildest dreams. Like a ceramist who turns raw clay into art, award-winning winemaker Jacques Erasmus was inspired to create a range of wines that capture the earth’s vitality. For him, winemaking is an extension of the hard work done in the vineyards to cultivate pristine, top-quality grapes. Jacques has a passion for viticulture and in particular for preserving prime old vines – by crafting unique and compelling wines that represent true South African excellence.
